Sunday, October 27, 2002 will be "Homecoming" for First United Methodist Church in Troy. For many of us, we do not remember another homecoming at the church.
The church-family sincerely hopes that all current members, former members and extended-family of our church family will attend. First United Methodist Church has been a corner-stone in the community for almost 200 years. The homecoming committee planned this occasion to honor that heritage and to honor what the institution has meant to so many, many lives in this community.
To honor the glory of God and the church itself, we have commissioned 100 sets of a Limited Edition Collection of plates, 4 plates per set, depicting the 1858, the 1888, the 1904, and the present-day church. These plates are fine china in the Dresden design with each set numbered. The set of 4 plates sell for $100 per set. Also, you can purchase the 1904 print and/or the 2002 print as single plates at a cost of $25.00 per plate. If you would like to order the set of four plates, a 1904 plate or a 2002 plate, please contact the church office (334)566-4400 or Doni Ingram (334)566-0782. The plates should be here for Homecoming Sunday.
Special T-shirts have been ordered to commemorate this day and will be on sale this Sunday, October 20. Please see Buddy Starling after the worship service to get your shirt. The Homecoming Committee ask that you wear them on the 27th as the Homecoming service will be casual.
To celebrate the day we have planned an "Ole Fashion" covered dish lunch to be served in our newly constructed fellowship hall immediately after the worship service. Please bring the following according to the first letter of your last name: A-E ~ Salads, F - K ~ Vegetables, L -S ~ Meats, T - Z ~ Desserts. Everyone will want to bring plenty to cover lunch for our guests. Worship service will begin at 10:55 a.m. with Rev. Jim Dannelly and Dr. John Brannon officiating. Our organist and choral leader have selected several of the most revered old hymns for us to sing in celebration. A special presentation will be made to one of our own during the celebration as well.
Please come join us for a day of reverence, celebration and fellowship. Learn of the many new programs of the church and the plans for the future of First United Methodist Church of Troy. IT WILL ALWAYS BE "HOME" TO ALL OF US.
